BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Captain, owner and primary pilot of the Blue Horizon. Amiable and generally easygoing, but will take a stand on any command he gives. He's good natured and enjoys a good sense of humor (he has to with this crew). He bought the Blue Horizon from investment returns and has turned a nice profit for his whole crew.
He was a fighter pilot during the Dennier-Mainor conflicts (a decade ago), and is a grand champion fencer on Dennier. He makes it a point to not get involved in the politics of whatever world he happens to be on, and does his best to make sure the local laws are followed by his crew. He's rather distrustful of humans, having been scammed in the past, although there are a couple that he can call friends. As captain of his ship, he is alpha and expects his orders to be followed. He is not reckless, however, and never asks his people to do more than he feels they can.
He is a native of Dennier. Both of his parents died while he was young and he was raised with his younger brother Lucas, by their older sister, Shannon, while in the care of their grandparents, Frank and Marion Frost.
He often wears a captain's hat, likes reading mystery novels and enjoys fencing. He does not care for liquor, but he is highly addicted to coffee and his perceived need for it is getting stronger all the time.
He and Samantha Holden met while attending school together on Alexandrius, and they have been close (though not exclusive) for many years. It has only been recently that their relationship strengthened; Merlin finally proposed to Samantha during the events of The Secret of Tanager Castle, and they were married during the events of Always and Forever. During the events of Lullaby, Merlin and Samantha became the proud parents of five pups (large litters are not uncommon for canine types).
His small company has expanded over the years. He started out with an old G-model Okami-class freighter that he used for six years before losing it during the events of Blue Horizon Down. That ship was replaced with a new H-model Okami, and over time, he has expanded his business to include the Hidalgo Sun and the Mooncrest, two more H-model Okami-class freighters. He also maintains a Home Office on Dennier in the city of Grandstorm (a place infamous for its tornadoes).

TRIVIAL INFORMATION: Merlin Sinclair's name was taken from two sources. Despite first thoughts, he was not named after the Arthurian wizard. His first name came from a Disney character, Merlin Jones, and his last name came from the abundant Sinclair gasoline stations near where I live in Central Oklahoma.
The name of the ship, Blue Horizon, came from the lyrics of the end song of a Japanese animι film called Toward the Terra.
